The Lanchester Library re-opened to all University staff and students on Monday 3rd August 2020. We’ve missed you all and we’re looking forward to welcoming you back and supporting your work and studies. We’ve had to make some changes to how we operate to ensure our spaces are as safe as possible so please read the following information carefully.
Access - You will only be allowed into the main body of the Library if you have pre-booked a study space or have an appointment at the IT tech bar. You can collect books ordered through our Click and Collect service, return books or use the quick print/scan/copy stations in the foyer area without a booking. You must have your ID card to enter the building and your booking confirmation to access a study space.
Study Spaces – to enter the Library you need to pre-book a study space. Spaces are available for 1-4 hours per booking or up to 8 hours for spaces on Floor 1. You can book up to 7 slots per week.
Click and Collect – Coventry University has a huge collection of e-books and e-journals but there may still be some items that are only available in print. If you need a printed copy of a book, you can place a booking through the library online catalogue, Locate. Our staff will retrieve the item for you and you will be able to collect it next working day from our collection area at the main entrance to the Library. The LibGuide on click and collect gives more information on what to do. Alternatively if you have a space booking you can browse the selves and use self-issue.
Returning Books – from Monday 3rd August, please return books to the Welcome area at the Main Entrance to the Library or if you have a space booking to the normal return point.
Our opening hours are changing to ensure we can safely manage the Library building:

You can either book a study space or use the print/scan/copy machines in library foyer without a booking. If you are using the foyer machines and wish to print you will need to send print jobs in advance or from your mobile device using https://remoteanywhere.coventry.ac.uk.

Yes, the space is open and you can book a space to work in the maths and stats centre with a maths tutor. Alternatively you can book an online appointment. Please visit http://sigma.coventry.ac.uk for further information.
We have put together a special guide to help your with remote working. It has guides and a calendar of home working webinars for live support.
Many of our ebook suppliers are lifting limits on concurrent access to help during this period so in many cases the usual limits will not apply. We are actively working with the rest to try and make resources as accessible as possible.
You do not need to return your books. You can keep them and they will automatically renew. All books are now due back by 23rd September 2020.
From the 3rd August 2020 you can return them to the Library building as per our opening hours above. There will be a returns trolley in the main Welcome desk area.

Loans over the first lockdown period were extended to 23rd September 2020. As the university is now open the expectation is that books will be returned in the normal way, however we understand that there may be issues with people needing to self-isolate. From the 3rd August 2020 you will be able to borrow a laptop for use in the Library for a four hour period if you have booked a study space.
From Monday 3rd August you will be able to order items through click and collect both those already on loan and those on the shelf and we can fetch these for you. You can also browse and self-issue if you have a space booking for the library.

Yes if the items can be sourced electronically. Many loaning libraries are still not lending physical stock so we may not always be able to get paper loans.
