The Postal Request Service (PRS) will post out books or send copies of journal articles from the Library stock to staff and students that are unable to visit the Library. The service is primarily for distance students and students on placement. There is a charge for this service - see below.
To make a Postal Request fill out an online Document Supply Request form. Fill out the request detail fields: Title, Author and Year, fill out your details and put ‘Postal Request Service’ and your address at the top of the Chapter/Article title field, read and click on ‘I agree’ to the copyright declaration and ‘save’. This sends a request email to the firstname.lastname@example.org email box.
We fetch the book from the shelf, issue it to your library record and post it to you, or in the case of an article and or a chapter, copy and send it to you.
The service is primarily aimed at students who are unable to get to the Library due to their location or the nature of their course, however the service is open to any registered student or staff member who has confirmed that the item(s) required are available in the library.
You may request any standard (3 week) loan book that you have checked is available on Locate. Any other category of book is not available through the PRS service.
You can request only one chapter or 10% from a book. Copyright Law prevents us copying more than 1 chapter or 10% of any book on your behalf.
You may also request only one article or 10% from any print journal issue that the Library subscribes to, providing copyright law is adhered to.
How many items may I request?
When requesting books the limit is your Library issuing limit. (20 books)
Please ensure that you have space on your Library card for the books that you request.
When requesting copies there is a 100 page limit maximum across all your copy requests per person.
The service will send out any available item to you within two working days of receiving your request.
We can email copies of articles and chapters as per copyright law to your Coventry University email address but we are unable to send loan items.
We do not normally send out any one week loan books due to the heavier demand and the fines that are incurred once they become overdue.
Books that are reserved by other students will not be sent out by the PRS as the reservation will reduce the loan period to one week.
Only copies of articles and chapters are sent internationally.
We would prefer that you return the books by recorded delivery post. This will enable you to trace and recover the cost of the books if they go missing. Please ensure that the books are returned to the Library by the date specified on the date label inside the book.
