Image from an online source
You must include an in-text citation. See the in-text citation section for more information about how to do this.
Components
Image from a book
If you have taken a picture from a book, simply reference the book and in your citation mention the page numbers.
Use these guidelines if you have created a table or figure yourself (e.g. a table or graph made up of data you collected in an experiment, a photograph that you have taken, etc.). If you have adapted a table or figure from another source, you should use the Table or figure from another source guidance instead.
Example | Example | |
Data | 1 | 2 |
Data | 3 | 4 |
Note. This part is optional, but if you need to add any notes to explain the table, do so here.
If you have copied or adapted a table or figure from another source, or if you have taken information from another source and put it into a table/figure yourself, you must include an in-text citation in your notes section underneath the table or figure. In APA, this is known as copyright attribution.
You can use the following phrases:
Note that you must also include an entry in your list of references for the source, using the normal referencing format.

For fashion students here in Coventry University London, you are sometimes asked to provide a List of Illustrations. This is also known as a Table of Illustrations.

Components:
Sometimes, lecturers will ask for an alternative table of illustrations format in your list. This will look more like the format used for general image referencing. Please take a look at the PDF document below:
Please check guidance in your assignment briefs, or ask your lecturer.
In APA referencing, tables and figures use in-text citations and notes. This is called a copyright attribution You also need to include an entry in your list of references - this should be formatted normally for the source.
Although copyright attribution has the word 'copyright' in it, for assignments which will not be published you generally do not need to worry about getting copyright permission. You are allowed to use small sections of copyrighted work for educational use.
If you are planning on publishing your work, you must seek further guidance about copyright before publication.
