Flying Start: International Travel Grants

The funding is available for 1st, 2nd and 3rd year undergraduate students receiving full maintenance loan and undertaking international travel during their course of study. 

Bursary details and eligibility

£100 – Students undertaking trip less than 30 days (Short Term Mobility)
£500 – Students undertaking trip for 30 days and more (Long Term Mobility)

• Students must be on the higher fee band.
• University authorised trip related to the course.
• Students must be on Full time/Sandwich course.
• Students must be an active CU student (a student is considered as an active student until their course end date and not their graduation date.)

Who is not eligible for this grant?

• Students on CPD and Non "Promises" courses.
• Students from CU London and CU Scarborough.
• Students from CU Coventry College.
• Students who are blocked/excluded from Coventry University.
• Students who have already received both of the £100 and £500 Flying Start Grants.

How is the Grant paid?

• Please complete our application form and save all the information.  
• Please attach your maintenance loan letter by clicking on attach file button on the top menu bar and click OK.
• The Flying Start team will review your application and check your eligibility. The grant will be paid by BACS payment into your bank account in 10-12 working days.

Additional Terms

• Students can be eligible for both grants in one academic year.
• Students are eligible to receive the £100 (trip duration less than 30 days) and £500 (trip duration 30 days and more) only once during course of study.​
• Student who receives the Flying Start International Travel Grants for an international trip but are unable to attend the trip will need to refund the grant.

What is the Flying Start International Travel Grant?

The Flying Start International Grant is a one-time funding offered to undergraduate students receiving full maintenance loan and undertaking a short term (field trips) and/or long term (study or work abroad) international mobility.

Who can apply for this funding?

All 1st, 2nd, 3rd Undergraduate students receiving maintenance loan and undertaking and international trip.

Can I apply for both funding options in one academic year?

Yes, you can, but then you won’t be able to apply for this scheme for the rest of your undergraduate degree.

Until when can I apply to this funding scheme?

Students can apply for this funding until your final-year course end date.

Do I need a copy of my maintenance loan letter when applying online?

Yes you do, as you will have to upload it when applying.

Is there a standard maintenance loan letter page/format required?

Yes, students should upload the 2nd and 3rd page of the letter, which shows the below details:

• Name of the student
• Academic year
• Maintenance Loan Amount
• Barcode

How long does the entire funding process take?

There are no timelines attached to this as it depends on when we receive the document. However, once the application is approved, you should receive payment into your bank account in 10-12 working days.
