Disability Support: Ebook accessibility

These pages give you a brief overview and tips on using ebooks via Locate.

You can access the ebooks from anywhere in the world using your Coventry University username and password. 

The look and function of ebooks varies between ebook suppliers. 

 Top five points to know

1. Ebooks are either Digital Rights Management (DRM) protected, DRM-free, or open access – see the DRM page.
2. The best viewing experience is by using a PC or laptop, but you can also use a tablet or mobile.  Some ebook providers also have apps, e.g. EBSCO.
3. Most downloads come as PDF or EPUB files. You can also read the books online which allows for more features such as highlighting and bookmarking.
4. Downloading capability and accessibility varies between ebook providers.
5. If you have a formally diagnosed print disability or dyslexia, you can apply for an RNIB Bookshare account to access more alternative format ebooks.
