Background
Statistical data can take different formats and the information available will depend on the subject area and who has compiled the data. Some statistical data is freely available on the internet whilst other data is only available to purchase.
There are two types of statistics:
Official Statistics - These are produced by national governments or international bodies covering economic, industrial, environmental, and social indicators.
Unofficial Statistics - All other sources produced by organisations such as trade/professional associations, companies, market research organisations etc. These organisations may also provide commentary and analysis associated with the data.
Statista provides access to comprehensive global statistics gathered from market researchers, trade organizations, scientific publications, and government sources. It is a good source for market and consumer information, industry overviews, company profiles and population data. Content types include reports, market and consumer insights, forecasts and surveys, and infographics.
