The University Library holds a CLA Higher Education Licence from the Copyright Licensing Agency. This Licence enables Library staff to make digital copies of published book chapters and journal articles that the University owns or subscribes to. We then enable our students to access them online via their reading lists connected to their Moodle modules.
One chapter from a book or one article from a journal part or 10% whichever is the greater can be used on any one module, for any one cohort of students.
If the Library does not hold the book, journal, ebook or ejournal - we can apply for a copyright fee paid copy from the British Library.
The book must not appear on any CLA “excluded items Lists”
Digital copies made under the licence can only be made available to students on a named module of study.
Check that your request complies with the terms of the Higher Education licence.
Make or obtain a digital copy and make the digital copy available to students via the reading list software.
The digitisation staff will inform you of any items which cannot be digitised.
Email your Subject Librarian with the necessary details:
Module Code, Book/Journal title, year of publication, Chapter/article details, ISBN/ISSN, page numbers and book editor, chapter author details.
If you want a number of items digitised for a reading list please send or email a marked reading list indicating the book chapters and articles that you would like digitised to your Subject Librarian.
Requests cannot be processed unless we have all the information required by the CLA.
Staff wishing to digitise teaching material beyond the terms of this licence would be advised to email their subject librarian with the details concerned.
If you have any further questions please email: docsupply.lib@coventry.ac.uk
