Locate is the library's online catalogue and a reliable route to all of our paid-for journals and books. It is a useful starting point for scoping out a research topic. Key Resources
Using a database is the best way to find journal articles. The following databases are recommended to search for journal articles.
Dance Databases
- Arts & Humanities Database This link opens in a new windowIncludees both scholarly peer-reviewed journals and selected trade and consumer titles relevant to applied arts and cultural studies. Contains over 400 arts journal titles.
- International Bibliography of Theatre & Dance with Full Text This link opens in a new windowMain database for dance research. Not totally full text.
You can click on the export function for records to export them into Refworks/Endnote. Indexes over 170 journals and includes book reviews and theses. - Research Library This link opens in a new windowBroad research database with American bias.
When searching use the 'anywhere except full text' option on the right - this will bring up more relevant results.
Databases for background research
- Academic Search Complete This link opens in a new windowGeneral academic database with wide ranging scope of subjects.
- SCOPUS This link opens in a new windowCovers a broad range of journal titles - mainly social sciences and sciences, but also some creative articles can be found.
You can also check the number of times an article has been cited.
Also available on Scopus is SciVal in which you can benchmark Coventry University against other universities.

Please note that the library does not hold copies of undergraduate or taught Masters dissertations.
- EThOS (British Library Theses). NOTE - this is currently down see this page.
Based at the British Library, EThOS allows you to view records for all theses (PhD & Masters level) produced at UK HE institutions and many of these are now available to download online. You need to register first to do this and it is free of charge.
Dart Europe helps you search and access theses produced a wide range of European Universities.
NDLTD is a free service which allows you to see across thousands of theses produced at institutions around the world.
You can find theses produced at Coventry through our online institutional repository - PURE.
