Document Supply Service: Home

If the Library does not have the item you need you can make a document supply request. Instructions on how to do this are given below. 

Remember to search Locate, the Library catalogue first for the item you require. Remember to login to Locate using your computer username and password.

Articles: Change the search to 'journal articles' in Locate and if not found please tick the "Expand beyond library collections" box and search again (this is under "Refine my results" on the left-hand side of the screen, and will check libraries worldwide); use the red Resource Sharing Request button to request adding as much information as you can. Books: if not found in Locate then please complete the Document Supply Request Form.

• Document Supply requests are free of charge to Coventry University staff and students.
• We are unable to 'Inter-Library Loan' full e-books, due to copyright you are permitted to request 10% or one chapter of a title.
• You are not permitted to make requests on behalf of someone else.
• Submitted forms are reviewed and processed by Information Resource Services staff.
• Supply times will vary; please wait at least 5 days before enquiring on progress.
• Items supplied by the British Library are usually delivered within 5 working days; items supplied by other libraries may take longer.
• Loan periods are determined by the supplying library but are usually for 4-5 weeks. Renewals are at the discretion of the supplying library and will incur a charge of £6.25. Late returns also incur a charge of £6.25.
• Article or chapter requests are delivered to your Coventry University email address with a link to your document.
• Once your request has been sent to another library, it cannot be cancelled.

What happens next?

If we don't have the item you require, a request will be sent to the British Library.

The British Library provide 80% of our requested items; the documents are supplied via a link in an email which will be forwarded to you.

If the British Library are unable to provide the item, we will search other UK libraries. 

Once we have found a library that holds the item, we will ask them to supply the item. 

Electronic copy: An email with a link to your document will be sent to your University email address.

Print copy: On receipt we will loan the item to you for approximately 4-5 weeks, depending on the library that loaned it.
