The National Institute of Teaching & Education: Academic Writing

AWS offers bookable 45-minute appointments to all students. These are available on Microsoft Teams or by e-mail and can be done on either a 1-2-1 basis or in small groups. 

An email appointment is between an Academic Writing Developer and a draft or other work that you send. During your appointment slot, the Developer will review the work you send, and at the end of the appointment slot will send back by email constructive feedback on the work. Please remember to send your work to the Developer in time for the appointment.

Things to be aware of:

• 45 minute appointments can be booked on the day (depending on availability) or in advance, longer appointments can also be arranged with tutors.
• Students may only book 1 appointment at a time and only 3 appointments per assignment.
• When booking an appointment, any information you can provide helps us to provide a more effective service. this includes your assignment and assignment brief, any guidance notes or feedback your tutor has provided and a clear understanding of the specific problems/queries you wish to go over in the appointment.
• Please remember that AWS tutors will not proof read or ‘fix’ assignments.

Cancelling Appointments:

• Please give advance notice if you need to cancel your appointment.
• If you think you are going to be late for your appointment then you must contact AWS: learningservices.cuc@coventry.ac.uk or the Library and Learning Services: library.cuc@coventry.ac.uk in advance.

General Assignment Expectations

On your NITE course.

There is no need for:

• Contents pages, Subheadings etc. Appendices, in-text diagrams or pictures, etc.

Reflecting on your placement e.g. your placement schools behaviour policy, approach to staff development etc.:

• Anonymise your placement school, so, there’s no need to cite or reference when reflecting on your placement.
• You also have first-hand experience of this, primary data does not need to be referenced.

E.g. ‘In the classroom the behaviour management policy was applied in x way.’
