How do I access books and journals?

Locate is the name of the library's search tool. Use it to search across all of the library collections. You can use it to find books (print and electronic) and journal articles. Simply type your search terms into the search bar, and select the type of resource you would like to find from the drop-down menu.

Locate is also where you can manage your library account, for example to view when your books are due for return.

If you would like to find out more about the functions available in Locate, visit the Locate Help Guide. We also have a live chat service on the Locate homepage, operating from 9am until midnight, where you can ask for help with using Locate.

I want information specific to my subject

Subject specific help

As well as all of the resources available on Locate, you also have a library guide specifically for your subject area, called a LibGuide. On your LibGuide, you will find a collated list of the online resources we have that relate to your course, as well as professional guidance about finding and using information for your studies.

You also have a dedicated Academic Liaison Librarian, whose job it is to give you advice about finding literature, using library databases, and doing your referencing.

Access the full list of subject guides to find your LibGuide and to contact your librarian.

How do I reference?

When submitting assessments, all of your work must be referenced correctly. We have created comprehensive guides to referencing. All new students will be using the APA referencing style, apart from Law students who will use OSCOLA. The guides break down how to reference by resource type (e.g. book, journal, website) and provide step-by-step instructions of how to create your references.
