Borrowing, Returning, Renewing, Fines
If you wish to borrow an item from the Library you should come to the Library to borrow it. When in the Library, you can use the self-service machine to borrow or return books.
When you have finished using your borrowed items, please return them to the Library so other library users can borrow them.
If the print material that you would like to borrow is out on loan, you can reserve it to make sure that you can borrow it when it is returned. Books and other library materials can only be reserved when there are no copies available on the shelf.
How to request a book
On the Library Homepage, search for the book you need in the box "Locate", or search directly in Locate.
Log in to Locate using your Coventry University computer username and password by clicking on 'Login' at the top right-hand side of the screen.
Find the item you wish to request and click on the item record. Click the red ‘Request’ button under "Where is it?"
Click on ‘Request’.
A confirmation message, “Request placed”, will appear if the request is successful.
You receive an email when the item is ready for you to collect, or you can also view your list of requests under your library account.
You have 7 days from the date on the email to pick up the item from the library desk.
Loan Periods
You may borrow 5 items at any given time. Our loan periods are:

1 Week. Automatically renewed unless another user requests them. |
Your library books will be automatically renewed unless someone else reserves them.
You are still responsible for all books borrowed in your name. Please check any emails that you receive from the library and return any reserved items and items you have finished with as requested.
If you have any fines on your Library account, then you cannot borrow additional items and your items on loan will not automatically renew.
Fines are charged on late returned items as follows:
Books |
If someone else has reserved your item, you must return your item(s) to the Library by the due date otherwise you will be fined £1 a day for each requested book up to a maximum of £15. The Library will inform you by email if any books cannot be renewed and will send you a monthly statement of the books which you have on loan. |
How To Pay Fines
Pay over the telephone - call 024 7765 7575 during staffed hours.
Pay online - payment for library debts can be made via the University's Finance department if visiting or telephoning the library is problematic for you (e.g. you are out of the country). The online payment page can be found at https://students.convera.com/geo-buyer/coventry#!/
or by using the QR code
IMPORTANT: The University's library and finance systems are not linked. If you make a library payment online you need to send proof of payment to the library (customerservices.lib@coventry.ac.uk) separately or the amount will not be cleared from your account.
