AccessAble has provided a photographic guide to physically accessing the Lanchester Library.
Direct links to their webpages, detailing specific aspects of physically accessing the library, are listed below.
All other buildings on campus also have AccessAble guides.
Car parking
The nearest disabled car parking spaces are next to the library, in between the library and the William Morris building (accessed from the Gosford Street entrance to the multi-storey car park and then turn right behind the William Morris building).
Entrance
Access to the library is flat through automatic doors which are operated by using your ID card. We have a main entrance off Gosford Street and a rear entrance facing the engineering building.
Lift access
Students who have a mobility impairment will be able to use their card to access the staff lift if the main public lift isn't working. If you have any queries when on site, please speak to someone at the Welcome Desk.
Welcome desk
The main Welcome Desk provides a lower height service point.
Accessible toilets
An accessible toilet is located on each floor of the library. For more information see the toilet section of the AccessAble website.
Dogs
Assistance dogs are welcome in the library building with their owners.
In the event of an emergency, an evacuation message will be repeated loudly over the public address system throughout the library. The alarm system is audio only. If you are unable to use the stairs to exit the library, you should remain in a designated refuge position located at every level of each stairwell, until the emergency services reach you. There are refuge positions outside the toilets on the landing of each floor.
Please alert a member of library staff as to your whereabouts; this will then be reported immediately to the emergency services.
