We can provide alternative formats for your module's essential reading.
If you require a hard copy book: we purchase the book for general library stock, reserving it for you for first use.
If you require an ebook: we purchase the ebook, but if that's not possible we approach the publisher for a watermarked PDF or EPUB for your sole use.
RNIB Bookshare provides ebooks in a variety of alternative formats such as Word, mp3, EPUB, Daisy or braille via their website. This service is available to students with a print disability, including those with SpLD (dyslexia, dyspraxia, dyscalculia, ADHD, autism and sensory impairments).
If the book you require isn't on RNIB Bookshare, we will endeavour to obtain it for you, either through RNIB, or directly from the publisher.
You can also read RNIB Bookshare titles by creating your own library on the free app Dolphin Easy Reader. If you use the free version of Dolphin you will only be allowed to read books from certain libraries e.g. RNIB, Calibre Audio, Gutenberg Press. If you wish to download Cov Uni library books on to your Dolphin app as well you'll need to pay an annual subscription charge (about £45 as of 2025). You may be able to get funding towards this via the University Support Fund.
You must be known to the Disabilities Office to apply for alternative formats for your essential reading or to use RNIB Bookshare. If you haven't already done so please make a booking to see a member of the team. If you have already spoken to them you can contact your librarian to arrange for alternative formats and Gill (below) to arrange for your personal RNIB account. If you have any questions, please contact the Library Disability Coordinator, Gill Evans, at gill.evans@coventry.ac.uk.
