Keep a safe distance apart when moving around the Library area.
Pay attention to the one-way system.
Avoid entering enclosed aisles when there is already another person present.
Study spaces in the Library can be used without booking. Please take appropriate precautions when working in groups.
Try to limit touching items and surfaces. Wipe desks and other touchpoints after using them.
All books can be borrowed for one week at a time. You can borrow books using the self-issue machine or at the Helpdesk.
Laptops can be borrowed for five hours (or until the building closes if that’s sooner).
You can borrow up to 20 items at a time. If no-one else needs a book you have borrowed, it will renew automatically.
To avoid fines, make sure to check your University email regularly - we'll email you if anyone has requested your books. Please bring books back when you have finished with them.
You can view your loans and manually renew your books by logging in to Locate.
If you need a book that someone else has on loan, you can request it using Locate. The next copy to come back will be put behind the desk with your name on it and you’ll get an email asking you to collect it.
Overdue books are charged at £1 per day.
Overdue laptops are charged at £1 per hour.
If your fines get over £10, items will no longer auto-renew and you will not be able to borrow anything until you pay some of them off.
The maximum fine is £15 per item.
If something gets very overdue we will add the cost of replacing it to your account (we take this off if you bring it back).
Don't let fines become a stress for you. Check your University email to make sure books are renewing, and make sure to get laptops back on time.
Let us know if you're going to have a problem returning something before it's due and we'll do our best to help.
If we don't have a book, we might be able to look at buying it as a book or e-book. Fill in the 'suggest a book' form in the quick links section or ask at the Helpdesk.
If you want an article from a journal we don't subscribe to, or a chapter in a book we don't have, you can make a request through Document Supply (you can also find a link to this on the top bar on Locate).
The article or chapter will then be emailed to you as a PDF if we can get it (please note that this service may be slower than usual due to Coronavirus limitations).
You may also be able to use other libraries in your local area to get some books, through SCONUL Access. This scheme allows you to enter and use books at other University libraries (but you won't be able to borrow anything unless you meet special criteria).
Most libraries are currently not currently accepting visitors from other institutions due to Coronavirus limitations.
