A good starting point for finding academic sources is our Library catalogue, Locate.
This brings together our physical and online Library resources, including books and journal articles.
To learn more about how to use and search Locate, please see our Quick Guide on Searching Locate video.
Searching Locate is very easy. Type one or more words you are looking for and click on the search icon.
Locate assumes that you are searching for all the words in the search bar unless OR or NOT are used between the words or phrases.
Locate will search across all document types. To filter to a specific document type, click on one of the icons below the search bar.
You can then refine your search results from the panel on the left-hand side. The Sort by gives options to view your results by relevance, date, author and title. |
|
Alternatively you can narrow your search results by selecting one or more of the filter options to Show Only a specific publication type, format, date range, full-text etc. The peer-reviewed filter is also available on a journal article search. |
To give greater precision to your searching, the search techniques discussed in the How to search guide can be used on Locate. There is also an advanced search feature to help guide you in structuring your search strategy and combining multiple search fields such as subject and author.
Here is where to find the advanced search on Locate.
You then have multiple options from the drop down menus on the search form to create a detailed search. The choice to search for books and more, books or more (online only), or journal articles is given at the top of the form.
You are advised to login to Locate using your Coventry University login details. This will give you access to the full functionality available from Locate. You can find the login option in the top right corner of screen.
Once signed in, you can view your account details from the Menu option in the top right corner of the screen. Here you can also see your Saved items and Search history.
Saving your search results or a particular article is also very straightforward using the favourite icon.
