The Academic Writing Service (AWS) supports students across the CU Group. They offer specialist writing support via online one-to-ones, generally using Teams.
Your tutors might recommend that you meet with AWS staff if you need some support with written elements of assignments. However, you don't need a referral; you can book an appointment yourself to discuss anything you'd like to. Sessions will allow you and an Academic Writing Developer to look at your existing practice together, explore new techniques and resources and work through any problems you've encountered.
You may be asked for your assignment brief prior to the meeting, to make sure that the support you receive is focused on the task you need to complete.
Alternatively you can email to arrange an appointment.
Students may have up to 3 full consultations (whether appointments or reviews of a draft) per assignment.
If you make an appointment and then cannot make it, please notify the AWS to cancel the appointment. This allows others to book, and saves the Academic Writing Developer from wasted time preparing for a no-show. A record of students who do not attend and do not cancel is kept.
If you don't want to have a 'live' appointment, or would like some general feedback on an assignment, you can email your queries or document to:
One of the team will get back to you with thoughts and comments as quickly as they can; please allow for at least 3 working days for feedback.
