Founded in 2023, Coventry Open Press welcomes proposals for journals, books and book series both from Coventry University staff and the academic community more widely, from first-time authors to thought leaders in their fields, especially in disciplines that reflect the University’s existing areas of expertise and its presence in the local community. We are especially interested in transdisciplinary research outputs.
Coventry Open Press aspires to 'Diamond' Open Access, i.e. no charges for authors to publish and no costs to readers to access the digital format publications. Further, we believe that scholarship is labour, and all labour should be remunerated. So, in addition to our Open Access commitment, helping our authors reach the widest possible audience, we intend to offer an advance against royalties to all of our authors and honorarium payments to all journal editors who commit to publishing two or more issues a year.
All new proposals will be assessed on their merits, be they formally scholarly or wider ‘impact’ factor orientated. Each proposal will initially be considered by the Press Management Board, which will be supported by an Editorial Advisory Committee (EAC). Coventry Open Press will adhere to the conventions of peer review and provide an industry standard level of editorial and production quality control while aiming to offer a level of author care that is becoming increasingly rare in conventional scholarly publishing.

All Coventry Open Press journals and books will be published Open Access, and we aspire to be a 'Diamond' OA press; that is, free to authors to publish and free to read digitally, and available to buy in a physical format at an accessible, affordable price. In this way, our authors will be reaching a significantly wider readership than via the traditional scholarly publishing route, but without compromising editorial standards. Open Access publishing reflects the core values of academia - of integrity and openness - and values the participation and input of the academic community. You can read more about Open Access here.
Coventry University is already the home for a number of well-regarded Open Access journals, which are now gathered together under the Coventry Open Press umbrella. You can find out more about them here.
