To borrow a book using the self-service machines, located on the ground, 1st and 2nd floors, you need to scan your ID card by placing it in the slot below the screen. When your ID card logs you into the machine, select 'Borrow' and place books in the larger section when asked to do so. The screen will indicate when the books have been added to your account by showing a due return date in green. It will then also print a receipt. To check your account, renew books, or pay a fine, simply scan your card under the card reader and click 'Account' and then select the relevant option. Please note that self-service machines only accept payment with credit/debit cards and payments can only be made on the Ground floor self-service machines.
The returns machines which is located on the ground floor, operates on a traffic light system. When the green light displays place one book on the conveyor belt. The red light will then display as your book is checked in and taken along the conveyor belt into the Sortation Room. Books must be returned one at a time. Whilst the red light displays please do not place any books onto the conveyor belt until it has turned green again.
How to Renew a Book
To avoid fines, please return or renew your books before their due date.
Click on the the button next to the books you would like to renew, or click on if you would like to renew all of the items you have out on loan.
You can keep renewing your items or they will automatically be renewed 2 days before the due date provided they are not reserved, overdue and your fines do not exceed £10.00, there is a block on your account or your course has or is due to finish or the item is not renewable eg. laptop etc.
Renewal will not be allowed if any of the following apply:
Another user has requested the item. If you see "Recalled" next to any item you have on loan this means that another user has placed a reservation on it and you will not be able to renew.
You have fines/charges on your account of £10 or more.
There is a block on your account.
The item is not renewable eg Laptop etc.
Your course has or is due to finish.
If any items cannot be renewed you will receive a courtesy notice and you must return the items within 2 days.
Charges of £1.00 per day per item will apply for late return.
On the second day of each month, the library system sends a 'Library Account Reminder' email to all users who have items on loan and/or outstanding charges.
Library Account Reminder emails are automatically generated by the system and give users a regular update of their library account. You do not need to send a response unless you have a query about the information shown e.g. a book is listed that you believe you have already returned.
If you want full details of your loans or charges you can check your library account at any time - log on to Locate or choose the 'account' option at a self -serve issue machine in the library.
