Once you have decided on the question metrics will help you answer, considered the implications of measuring a value and decided which metrics to use, you should evaluate the results.
Some of the questions below may have already been addressed during the process, but they provide an opportunity for ongoing learning, assessing what worked and what could be improved and influencing processes and actions in the future:
Did you take the right approach for the entity being measured?
What needs to be changed if this process is repeated?
What worked well?
Is this metric still appropriate?
Was this method as fair and transparent as it could have been?
Are new data sources available?
Are new indicators/metrics available?
Has the Institution's/Centre's mission/strategy changed?
Evaluate only where necessary
Does something need to be measured or would facilitating and enabling certain behaviours be more effective. |
Evaluate with the evaluated
This makes evaluation more accurate, relevant and respectful. |
Draw on evaluation expertise
Ensure process is valid, reliable and comprehensive to produce meaningful insights. |
*Based on the SCOPE framework process developed by the INORMS Research Evaluation Working Group for evaluating responsibly.
