The Centre for Academic Writing (CAW) is an innovative teaching and research centre whose mission is to enable students at Coventry University to become independent writers, and to equip academic staff in all disciplines to achieve their full potential as authors and teachers of scholarly writing.

Whether you are transitioning from A-Levels, a mature student returning to study after a long break, or an international student, your first semester at university can be overwhelming with a lot of information to understand.
CAW and the Library have developed a workshop that can help you understand two key aspects of academic practices: reading and writing. Our ‘Getting Started with Studying at University’ workshop will help you to understand how independent, critical thinking fits into your course and your assignments.
By the end of the session you will have created an action plan for developing your academic skills and a list of places to support you with your development. To book this workshop, and find out about our other academic writing development workshops, visit: https://libcal.coventry.ac.uk/calendar/caw
CAW’s writing workshops are designed to introduce you to various academic writing topics to help with writing within your assignments. They last either up to one- or two-hours and are delivered online via Microsoft Teams. Each workshop is repeated throughout each semester, so you only need to attend each session once. To view the current schedule of workshops and book online, visit: https://libcal.coventry.ac.uk/calendar/caw. In order to attend, you must book a place in advance. Registration opens four weeks before each delivery date.
The University of Maryland, College Park (in the United States) are conducting an Internal Review board (IRB no.: 2091700-5) approved paid study on the diversity of writing styles around the globe. They are seeking native and non-native (advanced) speakers of English (and/or Russian) to participate. Participants will be asked to author original writing samples for several different genres. Participation is entirely online, and compensation will be provided upon proper completion of study participation tasks. More information is available at go.umd.edu/writingstudy-e for English (and go.umd.edu/writingstudy-ru for Russian).
