CAW is pleased to announce a new facilitated writing support service being piloted in Semester 1. These sessions give students the opportunity to come into CAW’s Academic Writing Studio for two hours to work on a current writing assignment or a final year dissertation or project.
During these dedicated sessions, students will have the opportunity to speak to an Academic Writing Tutor while concentrating on their writing or integrating sources. To facilitate this, registration is restricted to 16 places per session. Early registration is recommended and students are expected to stay for the full session.
If successful, these dedicated sessions will be expanded during Semester 2.
During November 2024, in the weeks leading up to general written assignment hand-in deadlines, CAW will be hosting one Facilitated Writing Time session per week in the Academic Writing Studio. These sessions are aimed at students at any study level working on a current assignment that will be handed-in at the end of Semester 1.
These sessions are an excellent opportunity for you to have a dedicated writing space within the Centre for Academic Writing while concentrating on writing your assignment. During these sessions, an Academic Writing Tutor will be available for quick guidance or advice.
These sessions are not to be attended by students working on their dissertation or final year project as there is a separate session for this type of writing.
Students at the planning or initial writing stage of their dissertation or final year project will have a dedicated two hour introductory facilitated writing session in December 2024. This session is aimed at, and reserved for, undergraduate or postgraduate taught students at dissertation level only.
This introductory session is an excellent opportunity for students to have a dedicated writing space in the Centre for Academic Writing to concentrate on your planning or initial dissertation writing. During this session an Academic Writing Tutor will be present to ask for quick guidance and advice.
Please do not register to attend this session if you are not at your dissertation stage of your study. In Semester Two, this dissertation facilitated writing session will be offered during February 2025 and March 2025.
Each facilitated writing time session is limited to 16 spaces. Please register on the correct session for your level of study. Students registering on an incorrect session will have their place cancelled. To ensure students make the most of this dedicated writing time, attendance is expected for the whole of the session.
To register for a Facilitated Writing Time session, go to: https://libcal.coventry.ac.uk/calendar/caw and choose one of the sessions to attend.
Students may attend more than one Facilitated Writing Time session scheduled but as spaces are limited, CAW does ask you to consider allowing other students the opportunity to attend at least one session per semester.
If you cannot attend, please cancel your place in advance to allow another student the opportunity to register. Failure to attend without advance cancellation or informing CAW's Admin Team (via writing.caw@coventry.ac.uk) may lead to future registrations to be cancelled.
CAW has an academic writing development workshop to help students with their dissertation writing. Why not consider attending: (UG) Writing your Dissertation or Final Year Project workshop?
This workshop deals with the most common challenges of dissertation and project writing and offers advice on how to structure, format and write up your dissertation or final year project. Although aimed at late second year or final year students, postgraduate students may find some aspects of this workshop useful.
