Coventry University students may have a ‘seen exam’ during their course of study. This is an exam whereby students are given one or more exam questions that need to be answered in an exam condition, but students are allowed to research and practise writing up the answer before the exam day. On the day of the exam, students will then write their answers in the exam conditions.
CAW’s Academic Writing Tutors offer support for this type of exam in an academic writing tutorial by providing guidance on general strategies for preparing and writing in exams. We can illustrate the steps and strategies students may use in developing and writing an exam answer.
Our Academic Writing Tutors can only offer guidance on structuring the answer to a non-exam question. We cannot provide support to a student on the actual exam question, or a draft produced in response to an actual exam question.
Students may find CAW’s ‘Essay Writing in Exams’ academic writing resource useful to read. Visit: https://libguides.coventry.ac.uk/CAWhomepage/essaywritinginexams to read and download.
The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) is designed to help students study in a country where English is the main language. Coventry University's pre-sessional English (PSE) courses will help prepare you for UK academic study on your chosen future course. The PSE programme focuses on improving your language ability and developing your academic and study skills. The pre-sessional English course you may need to take will depend on what Coventry University course you want to enrol on.
For more information on these courses and pre-study IELT requirements, please visit: https://www.coventry.ac.uk/international-students-hub/apply/pre-sessional-english/
CAW cannot support students in an academic writing tutorial who are undertaking a pre-sessional English course as a requirement of studying at Coventry University. However, CAW’s academic writing workshops are available to all Coventry University students at all levels of study. Students on pre-sessional courses who have been issued a Coventry University email address may find some of CAW’s workshops to be helpful introductions to various writing topics.
