Studying an Add+vantage module is a mandatory element for most undergraduate students starting their studies before 1 September 2023. For students who are required to select, study and pass one add+vantage module per year of study, CAW offers a level 3 academic writing development Add+Vantage module. This module is being taught in September 2024 only and is an ideal choice for students undertaking their final year dissertation or a research project assignment.
A dissertation or final year project is the longest and most complex piece of written work at university. This module offers you strategies for conceptualising, planning, drafting, revising and editing longer assignments such as final-year projects and dissertations, and other types of research-based writing. Focusing on the Level 3 associated tasks of 'evaluate', 'synthesise', 'argue' and 'reflect', this module emphasises the place of these types of discourse and practice in academic communication. This module is of value to students of all disciplines, and the competences you acquire and develop will contribute to your university personal development and, implicitly, to your future workplace roles that are increasingly writing intensive.
Skills developed during this module include: Spoken communication, written communication, critical thinking, literature reviewing, research questions, dissertation structures, argumentation, and academic style.
Assessment: 1,750 word assignment
Once you have decided you would like to study this level 3 module, visit the main Add+Vantage student portal pages for information on how to register: Student Add+Vantage Portal Page. You can download a pdf file of the module on that portal page, or at the bottom of this information.
